Bahai Temple
A visit to Bahai temple whose faith was introduced to Uganda in 1951, making it one of the first Bahai communities in East Africa. Since then, the Ugandan Bahai has vigorously established the faith in the country, with members representing nearly every ethnical and religious background and being located in over 2,800 positions throughout the country.
The first Bahai House of Worship on the African mainland, completed in 1961, is positioned in Kampala and has come a well- known corner of the capital. Bahai Houses of Worship are spiritual gathering places open to all peoples. The temple has magnific infrastructure good for photography.
Gadhafi mosque
Gadhafi mosque in the heart of Kampala city and is the second largest mosque in Africa. The colored structure with its magnific features of Art was constructed and designed rested on a blend of lifestyles of Arab, European, and an African Touch. Built on Old Kampala City’s Seven Hills. It can also be viewed from all corners of Kampala. The mosque is open to all people regardless of their doctrines, political associations, tribal backgrounds, societies and races.
Namirembe Cathedral
Namirembe Cathedral also known as Saint Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe Cathedral. It is the oldest cathedral in Uganda. It started in 1897 as a diocese of Uganda until it acquired the name Namirembe Diocese in 1960. Inside the church are the remains of Bishop Hannington who was murdered in October 1885 just before the gospel of Mathew was published in Luganda as well as the cooks who begun Mengo hospital. At the top of this religious hill you’ll have a spectacular 360 degrees ‘sight of Kampala megacity.
Rubaga Cathedral
Saint Mary’s Cathedral Rubaga, generally referred to as Rubaga Cathedral, is the parent cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala, the oldest Roman qualified diocese in Uganda. Rubaga Cathedral is located on one of the seven hills of Kampala, Rubaga hill Lubaga Division. The cathedral is positioned about 3 km westwards by road from Kampala city center. It was designed in a very beautiful Roman architecture which draws attention of tourists from all over the world. The hill where the cathedral sits was once a palace to the Kababa Mwanga of Buganda and was used to plan for military attacks since it was strategically located overlooking kampala. Mwanga Donated the hill to the white fathers who introduced the catholic faith in Uganda.
Kasubi Tombs
Proceed to the Kasubi Tombs (Amasiro- Royal graves), located on Nnabulagala hill three kilometers to the west Kampala City centre. This
was Kabaka Mutesa 1 (1856- 1884) palace built in 1882 and converted into royal burial grounds in 1884. There was a huge dome shaped grass thatched structure ‘Muzibu Azaala Mpanga ’ used as a burial ground for Buganda kings and to date four kings and other royals are buried outside. Unfortunately, this important cultural heritage got burnt on 16th March 2010, and plans are formerly underway and its being restored to its former glory. Kasubi tombs are an UNESCO heritage point which is visited by both domestic and foreign tourists. The revenue realized from entry charges is used in maintaining the grounds and kingdom activities.
Kabaka’s Lake
The Kabaka’s Lake is located 500 measures from Lubiri palace in Ndeeba. It is an important corner in Buganda’s history. The lake was dug on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga II in 1885 in a bid to create a short link between Lubiri and Munyonyo place which he often visted. Feel the cool breeze of this manmade lake in a fast growing urban setup. It harbors a variety of bird species and different small aquatic animals. Find out how the Kabaka’s lake is interlinked to The Martyrdom during the reign of Kabaka Mwanga. While on the lake, you can ride in the canoe, you can try out fishing and birding.
