Fly-in safaris in Uganda normally appeal to travelers who do not only want to get from the long distances between tourist destinations, but the noisy cities can sometimes give one an unpleasant experience.
Fly-in safaris are much faster than using roads. Given most of Uganda’s stunning beauty, National parks are located in remote areas where accessing them by road can be hectic as it can take over 10 hours, therefore using a fly-in can save you. Usually flying to different destinations is more recommended for solo travelers, couples, and small groups, and in Uganda, Aerolink is considered one of the best-chartered flights that offer reliable scheduled and chartered flights to most of Uganda’s National parks.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kihihi & Kisoro Airports
One of the most exciting activities on a safari in Uganda is tracking the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park. Situated in the remote southwestern corner of Uganda, these parks are about 500 kilometers (310 miles) from Entebbe International Airport, which is approximately 10 hours to drive which can make you make you feel uneasy, which is why taking the one-hour flight is more comfortable. Aerolink offers several-day flights between Entebbe and Kisoro or Kihihi Airports. If your accommodation is in the Buhoma Sector north of Bwindi, then you should take a flight to Kihihi, which is only 2-hours away from the lodges in Buhoma. If your accommodation is in the southern sectors of Bwindi in the Nkuringo and Rushaga Sectors, you should get an Entebbe-Kisoro flight approximately a 2-hour drive outside the Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors.
Fly-in safaris to the park give you an outstanding aerial view of Uganda’s rugged southwest is like flying over Nepal’s celebrated rugged highlands and is undoubtedly worth experiencing for aerial enthusiasts.
In addition to your Gorilla tracking experience in Bwindi National Park, you can also embark on game drive ventures to the open savannah plains, climb snow-capped summits, and explore the most hidden cultures in remote locations like Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi to Murchison Falls, Bwindi to Kidepo Valley, Bwindi to Jinja.
Once you complete your gorilla tour in the extreme southwest, connecting to other remote places such as Queen Elizabeth NP, Murchison Falls, and Kidepo National Park is easily accessed with the daily scheduled and chartered flights operated by Aerolink between Entebbe and these national parks.
Queen Elizabeth National Park – Kasese and Mweya Airports
Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the most celebrated tourism assets and a must-visit destination for wildlife enthusiasts and independent travelers. The park sits on a square area of 1,978 sq km, offering incredible wildlife viewing moments. Top attractions in Queen Elizabeth National Park include safari drives and boat safaris on the Kazinga Channel that bring you close to hippos, elephants, buffalo, lions, and many rare bird species.
Driving to Queen Elizabeth National Park from Kampala takes up to six or seven hours. However, flying to the park cuts the journey time into an hour, allowing for more time to explore the park’s adventures or relax at the camp.
Murchison Falls National Park, Pakuba and Chobe Airports
Located in western Uganda, Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest national park. This stunning park is home to some of the most endearing animals to watch on safari and boasts the world’s most powerful falls, making it one of the destinations on a bucket list.
Murchison Falls is about 5 hour’s drive from Kidepo National Park and an 8hour drive from Kibale National Park, sometimes driving Bwindi to Murchison Falls is a bone-jarring 13 hours, which is why it’s the most avoided route and takes fly-in safaris, which enables you to easily connect to other popular destinations like Queen Elizabeth National Park or Kibale National Park or even fly directly to Entebbe International Airport.
Aerolink offers chartered flights between Murchison Falls National Park at Pakuba, Bugungu, and Chobe airstrips making your travel experience more convenient and enjoyable.
Kidepo Valley National Park (Pakuba airstrip)
Kidepo Valley National Park is located in remote areas and is one of the most underrated national parks. It is called the Mara of Uganda. It sits in the extreme northeastern corner of Uganda and its location has made it hard to be included on most Uganda tours. Because of its remoteness, flying over to Kidepo Valley National Park makes it easier to connect you to other destinations in Uganda with Apoka Airstrip just outside the park.
Kidepo Valley’s semi-arid landscape hosts an incredible number of wildlife, a spectacularly rugged landscape, and some of the most fascinating cultural communities in the country. Many of our guests have reported the best wildlife viewing experiences, notably pointing out the advantage of few tourists in the park.
